Awesome job on this! Kefka is the Japanese counterpart to the Joker for me, and the way you've captured that composed, yet scheming, evil, and clearly insane expression is exactly how I imagined him to be.
Continuing discussion - Y'know, I just can't see him as the same guy as the Joker. They're both cool, but I dunno - the Joker seems more insane and goofy while Kefka, to me, seems more cruel and needlessly blood-thirsty. Between the two, I kinda prefer Kefka. I'm glad you find it an accurate portrayal regardless!
Sure! While I love both Joker and Kefka, I'm with you in saying that I prefer Kefka. I think one of my favorite lines he ever spoke (at least in the English version, I don't know if he said this in the Japanese version) was just before the final battle when he said something to the effect of "You all sound like something out of a self-help book!" For me, he's the best FF villain ever, and one of my favorite villains overall!
The kind of evil guy that you can hate just for being evil. Hahaha. (shi... I need to play this game badly) I just adore the expression you used for him, not the usual bishonen that some people try to portray him. This is the real deal, his smile, the expression on his eyes, each tiny details is just perfect. A magnificent crayon box of evil, I say.
I love how you fused colors to contrast light and dark. It's completely gorgeous. I'm looking up to be able to color like you do.
Thanks so much for the good words! Glad you enjoyed it.
And seriously, if you haven't played FF6 get yourself a ROM or an SNES cartridge and do it up. It's really good, definitely worth your 40 hours of gameplay as far as JRPGs go.
And you know, maybe it's because I grew up with the game, so my exposure to it is different from the stuff that Square puts out now, but I can't see where Kefka is a bishounen at all. Psychotic fop? Yeah he's absolutely that, but Amano's art doesn't exactly flatter him, you know? haha!
This could not be any more like Kefka, the expression and all bodily movements seem just like his twisted personality. It could not be more agreeable that he does look like a crayon box.
I may be a bit over a year late, but congratulations on the Daily Deviation! I remember seeing this chosen as a Daily Deviation (or maybe I had, but I remember something as this, or close to it...probably is this, though), last year.
